My crafting productivity has taken a nosedive in recent weeks, as I’ve rediscovered the joys of WoW on my gorgeous 17″ imac.
I am making progress, however slow, on the Veste Everest, in Kathmandu aran tweed, dark brown. I love working with this yarn, I am quite enamored with tweed in general. The vest has been seamed at the sides and I’m now doing the bind off on the neck trim. The twisted rib was a bit fiddly but the finished effect seems nice.
While visiting my inlaws for new years, I started the Veste Everest and also worked quite a bit on Royal Holiday. I’m stitching this on 32 count Sparkling Forest linen from Silkweaver. I love this fabric. I started this project the first week of December and the rich green just makes me think of Christmas! I was hoping to finish the bottom half of the chart before setting it aside, but I kind of stalled after working on large sections with the wisper thread. I’ve recently read on the Mirabilia BB that you can fluff up the wisper using a toothbrush after stitching, so I’ll try that and maybe my enthusiasm will be renewed. I really like this design.
I’ve decided 2008 will be the year of finishing. Hopefully my documenting this in a public forum, I’ll actually be motivated to follow through. My goals are:
-Finish Mother Earth. This is a discontinued Dimensions Gold design adapted from the work of Karl Bang and involves a LOT of backstitching. It’s been a UFO for about 2 years, and I could probably finish it in a few weeks if I really turned my attention to it.
-Frame Waiting for the Mists to Clear. I was so proud of this- my first computer generated chart and the effect is stunning- all the confetti stitching was totally worth it. But it has languished, unframed in my craft cabinet. Must frame and hang on the wall!
-Seam up my phildar ruched cardi, using my sewing machine if that’s what it takes. The pieces of this cardi have been waiting for seaming for 3+ years. So sad.
-Seam up Rogue Redux: Little Red Rogue cardi. I knitted this a bit at a time over 2 years or so, and the finished pieces have been waiting for attention for a few months now.
-Bind Stained Glass Star, my wall hanging quilt. I started this is early 2003, right after I started dating my (now) husband. The piecing was pretty quick, but I languished on the actual quilting. It’s really gorgeous and a shame it’s tucked away in my cabinet.
-Finish at least one of my sewing wips. I have a husband shirt-in-progress, a shirt and a dress for me cut out and ready to go.
These are reasonable goals. I hope I can do it!
