- Pattern: Indigo Ripples, IK Spring 07, 29.75″ waist
- Yarn: Elann Den-M-Nit (cotton), dark indigo, 8.9 balls
- Gauge: 21 st/31 rows over 4 inches before blocking on US 4
- Time to knit: Just under 2 weeks, August 2008

Just in time for the end of summer, here is my last “warm weather” knit of 2008. I started this on my PNW roadtrip/vacation extravaganza, and I thought the stockinette would be perfect for the many miles in the car. However, I didn’t get as much done as I thought I would- I had to go down to US 4 needles to get stitch gauge, and so my row gauge was compressed.
I needed the 2nd size for the hip measurement, but then the waist was too large; not a big deal, it just sits a few inches below my natural waist, which I prefer anyway. No major modifications were made, other than length, mirrored double decreases in the lace section (k3tog and sssk), and the drawstring was made with a six strand braid, instead of I cord, for flatness.
For modesty and work appropriateness, I extended the stockinette portion to about 15.75″. I did only 40 rows of the lace, because I wanted a knee length skirt. And that’s what I got, after blocking… the stockinette shrunk to about 15″ and the whole skirt is indeed knee length.
I blocked this in lukewarm water and the dye bled, a TON. For my last (third) rinse, I added a splash of vinegar to the water, and that set the dye- there was no bleeding on the blocking towel, or dye transfer while wearing.
The knitting of this was somewhat annoying, as the yarn dyed my fingers blue, and its rope-like feel bothered my hands a bit, especially in the lace section. As mentioned above, I used mirrored decreases, and I’m very pleased with the lace.
I probably won’t knit with denim yarn again, but this was so worth it… I LOVE my skirt! It’s pretty, and a bit vampy but not revealing. I feel great wearing it. No longer skeptical about the wearability of the knit skirt, I’m already pondering my next one… Bell Curve perhaps.
