I got my fall catalogue from Webs, and WOW! This almost makes up for the rather disappointing (IMO) fall issue from Interweave Knits. I’ve added several patterns to my queue.
The first book that interested me is Debbie Bliss Winter Essentials, and here is the Mathilde dress. Knitting a dress would be a first for me, and I think it would be an interesting challenge. I do plan to lengthen this a bit, minidress is fine, but I’m pretty sure this would be tunic length on me (I am 5’8″). This pattern calls for something like 19 balls of cashmerino dk, and I need to find a substitute since, #1, the yarn is expensive, and #2, I’ve heard it’s not very durable. Likely candidates at this point are knitpicks merino style and reynolds soft sea wool.
The second book that caught my eye is Classic Elite Autumn 1, which has several gorgeous patterns, including the Swingy Jacket by Veronik Avery, and the Honeycomb Cardigan and Tweed vest, both by Pam Allen. On the right is Kat Coyle’s Rickrack Rib Pullover, knit in Classic Elite Wool Bamboo.
I love this pattern- it’s cute and very wearable. I’m thinking about trying the new Valley Yarn dk weight, Northfield, a merino blend with alpaca and silk. It comes in a number of beautiful colors and the price is certainly right.
Up next, on the left, is a Blue Sky Alpacas pattern, the Ribbon Trim Cardigan.
This is adorable! I love the cables, the deep ribs, the extra long sleeves, the snap front, and of course the ribbon trim. This sweater uses a LOT of yarn- 14 balls of Blue Sky Alpacas Melange. Not to mention the ribbon- there are actually 3 different types of ribbon there, and it is sold by the yard. The ribbon alone would come to about $60! Yeah I’ll definitely be doing some substituting; I think I could get some nice ribbon locally, and besides, orange isn’t my color. Yarn possibilities include Knitpicks Andean Treasure, Elann Alpaca Fina, Berroco Ultra Alpaca Light, and Jaggerspun Heather 3/8 Sportweight. I really want a purple or blue for this, and a ribbon in cool, coordinating tones, maybe some silver accents.
