WIP Update: Avalon

I’ve finished the body of avalon, and joined the shoulders with a 3 needle bind off.  Avalonwip2I added about 1/2″ of length, before the armscyes.  Last night I cast on for the first sleeve, after reswatching the twisted purl pattern.  I did not read the directions and messed up the stitch pattern in my first swatch.  The twisted purl is slow going but I like the look, I hope to finish the cuff and join in the round tonight.

I’m really enjoying this knit so far.  The fit is perfect, close fitting yet comfortable with a small amount of positive ease.  My row gauge is a bit smaller (8.5 rpi), so I’ve done some extra rows, but the pattern hasn’t required any real mods.  I like the yarn too, it’s soft and pleasant to knit with.  Plus, the yardage is fantastic- I used just a bit over 3 skeins for the entire body.  The knitted fabric is drapey with a great hand and wonderful color depth and tweediness.  I will definitely use silky wool again, perhaps for Salina from Rowan Vintage Style.
