- Pattern: Central Park Hoodie, Fall 2006 Knitscene, 36″ size
- Yarn: Valley Yarns Northampton (wool), forest green heather, about five skeins
- Gauge: 4.5 spi on US 8, 6 or the ribbing
- Time to knit: 10 months, mostly in UFO status
I’d say this pattern is an excellent introduction to cables. For anyone with cabling experience, it may prove somewhat boring. I made a few minor mods- my gauge was a little too small, which was ok since I didn’t need 36″ around the chest anyway. I added length to all the pieces below the armholes, and knit longer ribbing on the sleeves for turnback cuffs. I grafted the hood and knit the buttonband all in one long piece (300+ stitches!). The hood is snug, not tight, but I probably could have made it a bit taller. The buttons are wood, from Joann.
About the yarn, I love it. It’s very economical, and while nice enough in the skein, it really softened and bloomed with a good wet block. The color is gorgeous, with nice depth. All the pieces seemed tiny, and the arms were a bit tight, so I stretched everything gently while wet and now the sweater fits perfectly.
I started this sweater in Fall 07 and set it aside after I managed
to loose the front-in-progress and an entire (100g) ball of yarn. I credit the Ravelympics for providing motivation and incentive to buckle down and finish this. For my efforts, I earned a medal in the WIPS Wrestling event. Best of all, I have a new sweater for fall. This should get plenty of wear in wardrobe- though it was boring to knit, I love the finished product!
