FO: Mother Earth

Here it is, my triumph, my happy dance, my last FO of 2008!  This is particularly sweet as it was a long time coming (I don’t even remember when I started it, 2005 maybe), and it was a goal for this year.  The design is Mother Earth, adapted from the art of Karl Bang, in a Dimensions Gold Collection kit.  This has long been discontinued and I acquired it via a fierce bidding war on Ebay.  The fabric is 16 or 18 count aida.  Though I’m not exactly a fan of aida, I don’t mind stitching on it when every bit of the fabric is hidden by stitches.

This design had about 40 elements, if you count all all the flowers, branches, rocks, etc as one.  Each of those elements required lots of backstitching, in many different colors, thread counts, etc.  The  backstitching took awhile but it really made the design.  The cross stitching was fun because of the frequent color changes and each animal completed was like a mini happy dance.  Some of my favorites were the deer, swan, koalas, frog, and fish….

Now I find myself contemplating Noah’s Ark, by Stoney Creek.  I think I might be crazy.
