I actually knit this entire collar twice. I’m not fond of ripping but I will do it if needed! As you may notice, the collar is made with horizontal ribbing and shaped with short rows and decreases to make it round. The pattern says to do your decrease rows on the reverse stockinette sections of the horizontal ribbing, with k2togs on the WS. I found these decreases looked quite obvious from the RS, because the reverse stockinette sections are prominent on the RS. I even asked C if he noticed anything wonky and he pointed right to it. He tried to tell me that perhaps it was a “design element” but I wasn’t buying it! So I frogged down to the first decrease row and knit a few more rows, until I was on the second (WS) row of the stockinette section. I did my dec rows with P2tog on the WS of the stockinette section, spaced as per the pattern, but it had to be centered a bit differently because I had completed more short rows by the time I got to the decrease, and had less stitches to work with overall. Leave a comment or send me a PM in Ravelry, if you want more details on this modification.
Well, all the knitting is done on this. I have to finish the seaming (I set in one sleeve already), sew on a button loop, and find a button for the top (I want a wooden toggle). I will try to complete the finishing this weekend, speaking of which, there is an errata in the finishing instructions. The bind off edge (not the CO edge) of the collar should be sewn to the neck edge.
I’ve already started a new project, the Flutter Sleeve Top from last year’s Make it Modern Booklet by Classic Elite. I’m using Sublime Soya Cotton DK. I LOVE this yarn- it’s soft, lofty, perfect for this pattern. I got the idea after seeing Gloriana’s FO and realizing that Webs had the yarn on sale. I’m using color #89, cucumber. It’s a very pale green with a slight yellow cast. Yellow does not look good with my complexion, but I’m hoping this is green enough that I’ll be able to rock it. The back is working up quickly, I finished the lace hem last night. Pics of that next time.
