I’m starting off with something small for the SKC’s first quarter KAL for 2010, of which the theme is “lace”.  I started playing World of Warcraft again when the patch (new content) dropped in December.  The temperature outside plummeted and my hands were getting so cold while I gamed.  (My hands usually get cold while using the computer, but with gaming it’s worse because of the long periods of relative inactivity).  These do the trick, they’re super warm.  I made the small size, they fit perfectly, but the bind off is a bit tight.  I thought about redoing it, but my friend Beth reminded me a floppy bind off would create a less-warm mitt, and she’s right.  The bind off is not so tight as to be uncomfortable and it will probably stretch out in time.Veyla bottom (1)
I picked up the yarn on a whim at Fibre Space in Alexandria.  It wasn’t cheap, about $15, but seemed reasonable for a one skein project.  Canopy is a really nice yarn, soft and drapey, a bit fuzzy, and has good stitch definition in lace.  I just love the color, a perfect pink/purple, a point of cheer amidst these dark, gloomy winter days.  The pattern is great, with good clear charts. The lace is highly entertaining.  I had a “dumb” moment and picked up stitches for the right hand on the wrong side.  Eventually the right hand was frogged and reknit to match the left.   It’s a really quick project and could be finished in a few days if one were dedicated and followed the pattern correctly.  The buttons are purple, faceted shanks from G St, chosen with my friend Catherine’s help.  I love these buttons, in real life they are darker and more reflective; they finish these ladylike mitts with a touch of glam.

I think “ladylike” is a perfect word to describe these! Love those buttons!
