Here’s my new project for the SKC lace KAL, Lorelei from Twist Collective. (Okay, it’s not so new, I started 2 weeks ago and it lacks only buttonbands, buttons, and seaming.) I’m using Knitpicks Gloss dk in Admiral, a lovely dark blue/violet. The yarn is squishy and soft with a luminous sheen and 4 plies in a nice firm & round twist, everything a good wool/silk blend should be, IMO. The finished fabric has a slight amount of “crunch”, but I’m sure it will relax with blocking. I’m already plotting to buy more… The pattern was quite simple, with good clear charts; the only hiccup was gauge. The pattern gives different row gauges for the lace pattern and stockinette. This doesn’t make much sense, since the lace runs alongside the stockinette in the upper portion of the front(s), and if the row gauges weren’t similar or identical, the fabric would buckle. Also, it didn’t jive with the photos that show a certain number of lace repeats were completed, indicating a particular row count over 10 inches. The sweater in its current state is pretty darn tiny, but I do expect growth since the yarn contains silk, and the lace also needs a good blocking to open up. One more pic on the macro setting to show the lace detail in the collar.
I really like ths lace pattern- it’s textured, interesting, and pretty, though the “moss rib” elements took time to knit. Between this and Vivian, I do believe I’m done with moss and seed stitch for a while! On a different topic, I spent some time seaming my green eyelet sweater last weekend, and I do intend to finish both that and Lorelei this weekend, when we’re supposed to get slammed with more snow. Maybe a snowy photoshoot? I don’t mind the snow per se, but it’s been snowing on the weekends and forcing me to cancel fun plans. Though, right now, it’s snowing again and maybe it will be good for a delayed opening of work tomorrow….
