Here’s my new project, the Rose Red beret by Ysolda. I’m totally on a lace kick, inspired by the SKC KAL, I suppose! This pattern was one of my “Help for Haiti” purchases- when I saw that many designers on Ravelry offering a portion of their proceeds to charity, I took the opportunity to collect several nice patterns. Elann had Sublime Angora Merino on closeout back in December, and I picked up a few balls for a song, thinking it would be perfect for this pattern, and it is, with a little halo but still great stitch definition in the lace. The yarn truly is sublime, it’s a shame that it’s been discontinued. The downside is some sheddiness,
but that’s characteristic of angora. It’s splendidly soft; this is a yarn that you want next to your skin, and I’m thinking about making the other two balls of this yarn that I have stashed (in a different color) into a scarf rather than hat. The pattern is great fun, knitting a hat top down is a new experience for me! I’ve only deviated from the pattern a bit- I didn’t like how the I-cord beginning was sticking up. I guess it’s supposed to resemble a stem, but it reminded me of a bit of anatomy that I’d rather not see on a hat. So I sewed it down into more of a button shape. Anyway, the hat is knitting up quickly and feels divine- I can’t wait to get this off the needles and into my wardrobe!
