New WIP: Myrtle

I’m really enjoying my new project, Myrtle.  It’s a lace cardigan that was independently published recently by Snowden Becker.  After mulling over yarn choice for a while, I decided to use Pagewood Farm Yukon.

I was skeptical about using 100% wool, even sockweight, for a summer sweater.  Summer in DC… well downtown DC is built atop swampland.  Yukon has 20% bamboo and 10% nylon that lighten up the wool; the fiber composition combined with the open lace pattern will be comfortable enough, I think.  The colorway, Leaf, a semisolid green, is very pretty, reminding me the sun-dappled greenery in a forest at noon.  I’m working the 2nd size, which is supposed to be 32″ before buttonbands and mine is currently measuring about 26″ around, but the lace is stretchy and I’m sure I can block it to size.  I’m hoping to have this finished for Easter.

Summer sweaters are so tricky because of the often shocking difference between the outside temperature and the air conditioning inside. It sounds like your solution will be a perfect middle ground and I love the image of sun dappled leaves – very evotcative and very apt for a summertime knit!
