FO: Ambrosia

  • Pattern by Katya Frankel, Interweave Knits Summer ’10
  • Yarn: Cascade Pima Tencel, apple green, ~630 yds
  • Needles/size/gauge: 36″ size at 5.5 spi on US 6 to get 34″
  • Time to knit: 8 days in May/June 2010

Ambrosia front
This little sweater is quite the knitterly treat- it finishes so quickly!

Ambrosia side
The pattern is fine, pretty simple, knit in one piece from the top down.  I made a few mods; the major one was moving up the neckline, by beginning the neckline shaping on my last raglan increase row. Also, I added short row bust shaping (3 short rows on each side) before starting the waist decreases.  I knitted a few extra rows throughout the garment to account for my smaller row gauge.  Finally, though I initially did the necklime trim as written, I found it too loose and floppy, with tendency to flip under, so I frogged and redid with a smaller size needle, and also started by picking up and knitting stitches from the RS.  This meant cutting my yarn and starting back at the beginning for the i-cord, so I had a few more ends to weave in.

Ambrosia back
The yarn, Cascade Pima Tencel is one I’ve used before and liked, as it has excellent drape and a slight sheen.  This color, the apple green (#8374) is light green, yet deep and saturated.  The fabric is soft and silky against the skin.  I sewed some ribbon under the cable trim to stabilize and serve as foundation for my hooks and eyes- of which I used 13 pairs.

Ambrosia three quarter
I’m quite pleased with this project.  With a modest investment of time and materials, you wind up with a cute summer top!

You knitted this in 8 days? Amazing! Was it the fact that it was a top-down pattern what made it such a breeze? Your darting looks gorgeous, by the way! Glad to hear you like the Cascade Tencel yarn–I will have to try that sometime. 🙂 Bravo on another great cardigan!
