So, after a month of sporadic effort, I finished the back piece of Sage. I’d better pick up the pace if I want to finish this by the end of September! However, I do have a 2 week vacation coming up, so that
should help.
My new project is Peace, also from Kim Hargreave’s “Misty”. Luckily this is going much faster- It’s been about 1.5 weeks, and the body is done, with only the sleeve remaining. The yarn is Reynolds Saucy, 100% cotton, a good sub for the Rowan Handknit Cotton in terms of weight/yardage. The Saucy has cabled construction, it’s not at all splitty, and has a nice sheen from the mercerization. However, it also has an annoying number of knots and other irregularities, like knots in one of the 3 plies. It’s
working up into a nice firm fabric on relatively small needles and the color, a subtle gray-blue, is great, so I’ll stick with it, but I probably wouldn’t use it again. Funny, I’ve used Saucy before (in the sportweight) and I had a completely different experience… the yarn was much more matte, and also the quality was much better. I tried something new for the buttonholes, the “Tulip’s Improved Horizontal Buttonhole” from the Summer 2010 Interweave. I bound off/cast on 4 stitches for each. This method does create a nice neat buttonole, which is certainly more stable than the k2tog, yo method. I look forward to picking out big, pretty buttons for this project. I’m hoping to make quick work of the sleeves and have a FO soon.
