Alright, Middlefield is mostly done. I started this 10 days ago,
it knits up fast. I have a few more inches to go on the second sleeve, and then I must pick up stitches from the mid-yoke cast on and work up to finish the yoke and neck. That green yarn is a provisional crochet cast on…. the pattern called for a long tail cast on but the long tail provides a firm and stable edge that I personally would rather not have mid yoke. When I “unzip” my provisional cast on, I can slip the live loops to my needle and start knitting; I may have to increase or decrease a stitch to obtain the proper stitch count. The yarn is Shepherd Classic 100% wool, that I got from Webs on closeout in December 2009.
Kat was started on January 14th. I’m worried that it will turn out too big for my rather small head, but I
like slouchy hats so I’ll go with it. The yarn is Valley Yarn Sheffield, again puchased from Webs, in July 2010. Knitting from the stash continues, and I’m actually starting to see a dent. My friend Catherine challenged me to “yarn diet until MD Sheep and Wool”. This is a rather sensible idea, as I admit, the stash is overflowing. Knitting from stash until May will be easy enough; for a long term stash reduction strategy I’m thinking of a 3 out/1 in practice, ie, after knitting or otherwise destashing 3000 yards from stash, I can purchase 1000 yards.
