Ursa hit a snag when I ran out of yarn midway through the collar. Luckily, I located a kind raveler who
was willing to part with some yardage in the same dyelot. This project has a ton of finishing- the normal seams one would expect with a sweater knit in pieces, plus seams up the center front to apply the buttonbands. However, it is worth it- I love the coziness and stability of the double-layer bands. 3 buttons are required to fasten the yoke portion; I found some nice ones at G St.
The day after I put Ursa on hiatus was Valentine’s day. I cooked a yummy 3 course dinner for my sweetie, using this “True Romance Menu” from Cooking Light. However, I switched out the desserts and made my fave, chocolate mousse, instead. I don’t know where I got the recipe, but it’s super simple, requires only semisweet chocolate, butter, eggs, and heavy cream. Yum!
Being Valentine’s day I felt like knitting something red and a stash dive revealed some Classic Elite 150,
in Radish. This is pretty much a perfect red in my book. It reminds me of hearts, cherries, vampires (blood), and love. Forgive the dreadful iphone photography, but you get the idea. The color is off- imagine a bit darker, more saturated, blue-ish understone. I swatched for the Lace-up Pullover, from Classic Elite’s Sunday Brunch booklet, and had to go down a needle size to get gauge in each stitch pattern. Despite the small needles and textured stitch pattern, it proved to be a fast project, with the knitting clocking in at under 2 weeks. The vintage style is really adorable. I fretted about running out of yarn, first because I added length to the body, and again when I somehow lost a partial ball; it disappeared on the Metro. Remaining to be done is seaming, weaving in ends, and blocking; already purchased is some gorgeous double-face satin ribbon to lace up the front. Speaking of which, “Lace-up Pullover” sounds so prosaic, eh? Henceforth, this will be known as “Vintage Heart”.
