Godrics spell
Salvio hexia!  Forgive the silly photography-couldn’t resist.  The Harry Potter movies are chock full of enviable knitwear.  I really enjoyed the latest installment, “Deathly Hallows Part I”, which I saw twice, each time coveting the cute hat Hermione sports in the Godric Hollows scenes.  Spoiler alert: She wears it while conjuring a simply beautiful floral wreath at the grave of Harry’s parents; she wears it while saving Harry from a trap set in the erstwhile home of Bathilda Bagshot.

Numerous patterns for this hat quickly appeared on Ravelry; I chose this one because it seemed closest to the movie version.  It was a free pattern, not test knitted, and I had an issue with the crown shaping; the designer kindly provided help and made pattern corrections.  There is no gauge specified and I did have a problem with the needle sizes in the pattern (the hat was coming out tiny), so I frogged and started over on larger needles.  I found the star stitch easier to execute on the larger needles, anyway.  If I were to do this again, I might knit more height before beginning the decreases for a bit of slouch.

It’s the first time I’ve used Knitpicks Andean Silk;, it’s a lovely, soft yarn, scored at 25% off from the Cyber Monday sale.  The yarn is round and plump, with a slight halo from the alpaca and an attractive sheen from the silk.  The color is a perfect mid red-purple; the hue varies depending on light conditions.  Also, the knitted fabric is very warm.

I also have plans to knit up a few more “Hermione” projects, but no promises as for when!  If only I could enchant my needles….

Where or how did you find the pattern in English? I only use Raverly slightly and do not know what to click or how to find this in English. Thanks
