Well, the SKC on Ravelry chose “Vests/Sleeveless Tops” for our 2nd quarter KAL, and in the spirit of stashbusting, I’ve cast on a few projects that have been long planned. First up is the Ringlet Tank.
Pictured is about 6″ of the lower front. I had a few issues with this pattern… first my row gauge is off, so I had to adjust the shaping. Then I discovered errata: the directions for the right back sleeve shaping, which is completed first, don’t jive with the stitch count, nor do they match the directions for the left back, that is to say they don’t create a mirror image. Once I figured that out, frogged, reknit, etc, I basically scrapped the pattern and worked according to my own directions, so I can’t say whether the front directions have similar problems. Also, the schematic is mislabeled. Oh well, I can’t complain too much, since this project knit up insanely fast- less than 1 week. I seamed it up to check for fit (super cute!) but this project requires a ton of crochet finishing, which isn’t really my cup of tea, so I must talk myself into it.
In the meantime, I cast on the Alice top, inspired by Alice in Wonderland. This design is so pretty and I
wanted to make it in a dark color to play up the gothic elements of the story, like in Tim Burton’s recent adaptation. The front and back lace panels require patterning on every row, so it’s not the sort of thing one can really zone out while knitting, but I’m finding it addictive. I am not sure if I have enough yarn- I have the amount specified by the pattern, but I’ve knit 1/3 of my yarn and I’m not sure if the top is 1/3 finished. I’m planning to cast on something else, for my “background knitting”, and I’ll probably try to see if I track down some more yarn to match my dyelot.
