Peaks island front

I begun this project on a whim and much to suprise, it pretty much knit itself in less than week.  I’m an English style knitter and seed stitch normally takes a while, so this was a pleasant surprise.

The pattern is fine, no errata, though I found the way it is written somewhat cumbersome.  I guess I would have preferred a chart for the shells and the shaping given in a more pithy manner, rather than written out row by row.  Are 3 pages really necessary for something that is essentially a long rectangle with a one wider portion (the hood)?  Anyway, it’s an easy enough project and the pattern provides plenty of hand holding if you need it.

The yarn, Berrroco Palace, with 50% merino and 50% silk is really luxurious.  Funny, it’s a similar blend to the Brooks Farm Four Play, which I used for the Angostura vest, but the feel is completely different. Palace is shiny, silky, and slippery.  It knits easily by touch alone and the color, a saturated purple capitalizes on the vibrancy of the silk.  I knit it rather loosely and it grew easily while wet; thankfully gauge isn’t really critical for a scarf.  For a garment, I’d knit at 4.5 spi (as suggested on the ballband) or perhaps 5.0 spi.  The finished fabric is silky soft and drapey with a gorgeous sheen.

Peaks island no hood
Peaks Island is a very practical accessory- hat and scarf in one.  I love the whimsical style and it will coordinate nicely with my purple coat.  The soft, silky fabric feels like pure luxury against the skin.
