Here is my rather ambitious effort to churn out 2 sweaters in the last month of the KAL, cheered on my fellow SKC member (and real-life friend)… thanks Becky!
I cast on Laika mainly because I wanted to use this yarn, Knitpicks Gloss, that has been stashed since 2006. It’s a nice yarn and works great for this pattern, the silk/wool blend providing drape and spring for the simple lace pattern. I won’t lie, with a row gauge of 8, this project involves a lot of knitting and is somewhat tedious, but at least the pattern is easy. The sweater worked up pretty small, but I’m counting on growth during the blocking phase, both to open up the lace and the yarn should stretch, due to the silk content. The pic above is a bit dated; I’m now at the stage where I need to weave in ends, block, and sew on buttons. Of which there are 20, egads!
Auburn has been in the queue since “New England Knits” was published. Gorgeous pattern, simple but with a few special details for interest. Mostly stockinette and in worsted gauge, it’s much quicker knit than Laika, thankfully. The yarn, Knit One Crochet Too Camelino is one I picked up in a bag sale at Elann without any real plan. The color “Plum” is a really pretty pinky-purple, and the yarn (a merino/camel blend) has a wonderful plush, plump feel. I’m done with the knitting, but I still need to do the seaming and block it. Wish me luck !
