I loved this pattern from the first time I saw the photos, and it’s actually my 4th project (3rd sweater) from New England Knits.
The pattern is well written, and quite simple. The body shaping is accomplished via central darts, a nice look. The sleeves are bracelet length, and have an adorable “pouf” at the top. The body is knit in the round. I began with tubular cast ons for the 1×1 rib, and I added short row bust shaping. I joined the shoulders via 3 needle bind off, then seamed in the sleeves. The project is mostly stockinette up to this point, a quick knit. But then you must knit the collar, which is a slog… essentially a 1×1 ribbed scarf. Probably the trickiest part of the project is knitting the picot trim around the neck piece, then seaming in the collar. I seamed across the base of the neck piece a few times before I was satisfied; still I’m not thrilled with the bulk at center front. But there’s nothing that can really be done there, as the collar is layered and double-thick.
Knit One Crochet Too Camelino is 90% merino and 10% camel, a very soft 3 ply with a nice moderate twist, easy to knit by touch alone. The fabric knits up with a plump, plush feel. Camelino is discontinued and I probably should have picked up more when Elann had it on clearance; it’s a really lovely yarn in a versatile gauge (worsted). This was my first experience knitting with camel; I’d definitely try it again as the fiber is incredibly soft as far as I can tell. I really like the color of this yarn, a perfect mid pink-purple, nice for fall in my opinion.
I’m quite pleased with this project; it was a quick knit, feels wonderfully soft against the skin, and is especially cozy with the full collar. The style has a demure, retro vibe that is quite fun to wear!
