• Pattern: Dimensions Gold Collection, adapted from art by Ruth Sanderson
  • Fabric: 16 count aida
  • Size: 14″ x 12″
  • Time to stitch: Well, I started June 7, 2007….

I am happy dancing!  I could not be more pleased with finishing another of my WIPocalypse projects.  My WIP count is now done to 8 (from 10 at the beginning of the year), and being back in the single digits feels great.

This project wasn’t the easiest.  There are plenty of blends and stitching with high thread counts.  The fabric becomes so stiff that it takes some effort to punch the needle through!  The details are many… backstitching with several different colors and thread counts, and all the metallics are attached by couching.  It’s not terribly time consuming, however…. she was less than half done prior to 2012, and I managed to finish her after about 6 weeks of stitching this year.

I love Ruth Sanderson’s art and I think the people at Dimensions did a great job with this adaptation.  The sense of movement is palpable and her wise, knowing expression is cool.  The depiction of light is very interesting, between the two sources:  pale sky on the left and her glowing torch on the right.  The colors seemed kind of muted, but everything pops now that it’s done.  And there is plenty of bling between the gold metallics and the beads which form a trail (of pixie dust?) from her hand.

The Dimensions Gold collection has a companion design, Fall Fairy, which I have stashed and hope to stitch one of these days.

I’ve always loved Ruth Sanderson’s art! I’ve been slowly collecting the books she’s illustrated for years…
