Meet Baby Oliver

My sweet baby, Oliver, was born February 10, 2014, 1 week early, weighing 6 lb 12 oz and 20.25″ long.  I studied hypnobirthing hoping for a natural childbirth without drugs, and we achieved that.  We spent a few days in the hospital and arrived home on February 12.  Since then, the three of us (Mommy,Daddy,Baby) have been settling into a routine and becoming acquainted.  He is an amazingly calm baby for the most part and I am reminded of hypnobirthing’s motto “Taking the world by calm”.  For those interested in further details, read his birth story.

This is a crafting blog and intended to remain so.  However, Oliver is a huge part of my life now and much of my crafting will probably revolve around him.  I have kitted up a cross stitch birth sampler and am hoping to sew his Christening outfit.

And now, Oliver’s first week of life in pictures!  First, Oliver on his birthday.  You can’t see here, but he has blue eyes and blond hair and the most perfectly shaped head with darling ears.  I’m his mother, I admit bias, but I consider him extraordinarily gorgeous!

Coming home from the hospital on Day 3 of life- he lost around 10% of his birthweight and his tiny snowsuit is quite oversized.   I am so ready to go home- I feel both mom and baby will recover much better in our comfy nest!

Our first day home- Ollie is 3 days old and well on his way to becoming a champion nurser, thanks to a powerful latch and the help of the hospital lactation consultants!

4 days old and content after feeding.  He sleeps well in a bassinet next to me, but he loves Mommy & Daddy’s bed too!

Ollie is 5 days old and working on a double chin-breastfeeding in 2 hour intervals around the clock is hard on Mommy but it pays off!  It’s Valentine’s Day and previously made plans with my husband fall by the wayside, but with this angel to cherish, who cares?

Ollie is 6 days old and digs the swaddle.  If you are pregnant, read the “Happiest Baby on the Block” by Dr.  Harvey Karp.  The ‘fourth trimester’ is real and these techniques work!    Other helpful books I recommend: “Heading Home with Your Newborn” by Drs. Laura A. Janney and Jennifer Shu, & “Brain Rules for Baby” by Dr. John Medina.

Ollie is 7 days old and gets a bath before his doc appointment.   The official weigh in is 6 lb 11.5 oz!  Babies are supposed to gain back their birth weight in the first two weeks and my little fighter has gained his back in one week- Viva la breastfeeding!

Enough with the photos for now- but will probably share more later as I post my crafting projects for him.  I don’t have a lot of time to myself just now, but I will try to make a belated Valentine’s Day post soon- I created several home dec items in advance of my little one’s arrival!
