I like to have two Mirabilias projects in my rotation, and I need pieces for the Mermaid gallery wall in my master bathroom (only 2 so far, but 5 or 6 would be nice).  Mediterranean Mermaid has long been on my “wishlist”; my sister gave me the beadpack for my last birthday.

So, without further ado, here is my floss toss on 30 count “blue jeans” linen by Week Dye Works.

Progress after ~ one week:

MedMerWIP 7-19-15

The hair is modified, obviously.  I was not a fan of the blue patches in her hair.  Aside from the blue patches, her hair is just two shades of dark brown floss, ~95% DMC # 3031).  All that dark brown might look flat.  I thought a blonde mermaid would be nice in my collection (Mermaids of the Deep Blue are brunettes, and Emerald Mermaid has auburn hair).  I picked out 4 “blonde” colors from my DMC collection (3852, 3820, 3821, 3822 in order from dark to light). First I made a sketch of the shape of her hair and then drew wavy lines to divide it into sections, like locks of hair.    Next, I drew the outline of her hair onto graph paper (a somewhat painstaking process, this is a large area!), and divided it into 15 sections based on my original sketch.  I labeled each section with one of the four colors, concentrating the dark colors more on the bottom of her hair and the lighter sections more to the top and the ends.

I plan to keep at her until the hair is finished (I’m in a groove), then rotate to another project.  But I think I can finish her this year.  And then start “Siren and Shipwreck”.  A piece of “Splash” beflast that I believe will be perfect for her is on order from Picture this Plus.
