It’s great to have this finished before Halloween!

The fabric is a fat eighth of belfast from my old Silkweaver fabric of the month club stash. It’s mottled greyish-green with brown and orange splotches. The color seemed appropriate for steam coming off a noxious cauldron brew. It was easy to count and I enjoyed stitching on it.

The pattern is great, no errata. Some specialty stitches (Smyrna crosses, rice stitch, spider web roses) are used and clearly explained. There are a fair amount of Smyrna crosses. Those were a bit cumbersome (it’s essentially a double cross and would probably be easier on 28 count fabric) but it does create a neat dimensional effect. The beads are used sparingly, just as eyes for some of the critters, but they do add a little sparkle.

My favorite aspects are the curious frog and the “Eek-Boo” spiderweb in the upper right corner. This is my third Halloween finish, but all are small-to medium sized. I’d like to do a large one and I have several options in my stash- like X’s and Oh’s Spooky House.
