Last year, I decided that I needed a “12 Days of Christmas” themed cross stitch. One day, I snapped up an awesome Ebay deal on this kit, by Joan Elliott for Design Works. 14 count white aida is not my cup of tea, however, so I subbed 32 count white evenweave (cotton) with silver, by Fabric Flair. The fabric is soft with a subtle sparkle and easy to count.

I worked on the top left quadrant of the chart, mainly, the left part of top section and then two of the smaller blocks- 2 turtle doves and 3 french hens. The kit came with a ton of gold metallic thread, and I did give it a try- it’s not bad, and I do like the effect. Every red line is bordered on both sides by gold lines. I’d say progress is about 20%.

I might take it out each month and try to make a little progress. Each block is not too work intensive, though there are a lot of color changes and some fractional stitches. But I’m in no rush, so it just depends on my mojo. I would like to finish at least the half of the pattern this year, though. That includes backstitching and the metallic. And now, Crazy January marches on- it’s time to start Love with a Capital L!
