In late February I started Fire Goddess by Joan Elliott.  This is one of my Year of WIPs pieces (2017 finish goal) and it was about time to get it on the go.

  Fire Goddess-model

The fabric is 32 Belfast “Golden Promise” by Silkweaver (old).  I actually have two pieces of this color  in my stash and one is much darker (this is the lighter one).  It’s a warm yellow / tan, slightly mottled.  I started near her waist, at the center, with DMC 720.  Traffic cone orange?  Orange is probably my least favorite color.  Much to my surprise I found myself quite enamoured of the colors as I stitched more.  Joan Elliott is a color genius.

Fire Goddess WIP 2-25-17I worked on her 3 days and finished a good chunk of her skirt.  The colors are so cheerful, eh?  It is a fun stitch so far and I’m looking forward to working on her more in April, when she will get a weekly rotation.  But who knows, maybe I can fit her as a challenge piece before then.

This is a beautiful piece. I’ve seen many Joan Elliott pieces stitched before on various forums, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen this one.

I love stitching orange because of all my Hallowe’en stitching. This is a gorgeous design. I thought about doing a RR style collage of just the heads and top half of each of the four
