Maynia continued into Week 2! I had two new starts planned.

May 8, I started “I am a Stitcher” by Cherrywood Design Studio and worked on it 4 days. It’s stitched on “Haven” 36 ct linen by Picture this Plus, and I’m choosing my own colorway.

I’m using silks, primarily from stash so far. The background pattern is Caron Waterlilies Sandstone. The first phrase is Waterlilies Cardinal. Then, Hand Dyed Fibers Acts of Violets, then Fiberlicious Filament Silk in Sapphire. I ran into the roadblock with the next phrase, which I had intended to stitch in Waterlilies Emerald, purchased online especially for this project. I liked it fine in skein form, though it was a bit darker than expected. It stitched up very dark, less jewel tone, more forest green. A pretty color, but not right for this piece. I have ordered some silk floss from Carrie’s Creations; she has DMC comparison numbers for her floss. I hope the colors work out! The background flower pattern is stitched down the midline of the chart. I’ll probably work on this again when I get my order from Carrie’s Creations, I would like to finish the top half ASAP.
On May 12, I started Father Christmas by Sandy Orton from the Leisure Arts Charmed Christmas book and worked on him 3 days. I call the pattern Charmed Santa, and I’m stitching on 32 count raw gold belfast by Zweigart (super sparkly gold opal in person).
There are many blended colors, and plenty of quarter stitches too. I worked only with solid colors in the bottom left quadrant and made a good chunk of progress. This isn’t a large design- roughly 8 x 10 on 16 count, but it is full coverage and very detailed. The colors are rather muted, befitting a vintage style design. I love it and I’m looking forward to giving it a week in July.
During the second week of Maynia, in addition to these 2 new starts, I also worked on 6 WIPs, basically everything that remained in the WIP pile, with the exception of my Christmas village. I even had a finish, my hardanger ornie. Maynia was a success but now it’s time to get back to my older projects and rack up some finishes!
