Presenting my 4th reindeer… Dasher!

I love the sense of flight in this design, Dasher racing midair through a snowstorm looking fab with plenty of bling- fantastic! The pattern was fine, a bit more challenging compared to the others. The backtitching is extensive and done mainly with a kreinik thread that matches my fabric pretty well. The beading took a while and I had to take a break and order more since I ran out of the “snow” beads; most of those require counting for placement. I just estimated in some places and it looks fine.
The fabric is light grey and sparkly, the last of my first fat quarter. You can get get 4 reindeer from a fat quarter, with a modest framing allowance, if you cut carefully into quarters. It’s a pretty background, but I think something a bit darker would be preferable for the reindeer… oh well, I’m committed now.

There are a tons of treasures on this girl! The dark pink flower beads are Mill Hill treasures; all the others are swarovski crystals I got from bead stores like Fusion Beads and Artbeads.com, for a fraction of the amount that Mill Hill would charge. Here’s the deal: Mill Hill repackages the swarovski crystals and adds a considerable markup. I did a conversion, using size info in mm (key), and online pics for color. 3 types of treasures are used on Dasher (Margarita = Preciosa Crystal Flower 6mm, Very small teardrop = Preciosa crystal teardrop 11 x 5.5 mm, Rondele = Bicone 4mm).
The reindeer’s name is my own little addition. Apparently I’m half done with the series, having finished 4 out of 8… actually there are 9 patterns, but I’ll be skipping Rudolph (you know the poem by Clement C. Moore references “8 tiny reindeer”). I’m hoping to frame my 4 finishes and hang them next to Royal Holiday this year.
