So far 2018 has been going pretty well. I’ve stuck to my rotation pretty well, and had 7 finishes: 2 smalls, 2 medium, and 3 large. One milestone I’m happy to reach is the halfway mark (6 buildings done) on my Mill Hill Christmas village (started last year). I’m a bit ahead on holiday stitching since I stitched my son’s yearly ornament in May. As for my fitness project, it’s been going well, though with ups and downs like any journey. But I’ve maintained as best as I can, gained strength, lost inches… and dropped over 20 lbs! Here’s a pic of my Fall Fairy which got 9 days in June, it was my focus piece for Whine n’ WIPs. I’m finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!
Siren & Shipwreck by Mirabilia got a simple treatment, just stretch & laced and popped into the frame, which has a light gold, “champagne” finish.

It’s fairly detailed with grooved outer and inner edges, light distressing on the concave scoop, and a section of texture that evokes ocean waves, IMO. It was $32.96, custom cut. I wanted a frame a bit on the neutral side, to complement the bright sea green fabric and also the sparkling white chandelier. I’m extremely chuffed. She is my 5th framed mermaid, and I’m well on the way to a mermaid gallery in the master bath.
Toil & Trouble by Erica Michaels is a rather small and busy piece; I wanted to beef up the size with a double mat. The double mat is also useful to focus the eye when there are so many colors.
The frame is slender and carved in a pattern reminiscent of bats, with a black satin finish. It was in my stash since 2015 when I paid $26.53 for it, custom cut. I’m glad it’s finally ready to hang! The double mat has a bright orange inner mat and a purple top mat. That little pop of orange adds a lot of fun to this piece, and I’m trying to make Halloween not too scary while my son is little. This won’t be hung up immediately, but I’m trying to frame pieces before the holiday month, this year.
Expect to see at least 2, and hopefully several more framed pieces this year!
