Presenting my first, but certainly not last, Potter project!

The pattern is by StitchArea on Etsy, formerly Stitchline. Her shop closed, and reopened under the new name; this pattern is no longer included among her offerings. I had a few issues with the chart. There was one element that was indiscernable IMO (it might have been a dementor). I substituted an owl, which I considered more appropriate anyway. I doctored virtually every symbol, mostly with fractional stitches, to render them less blocky and more realistic. The pattern took longer to stitch than expected (for something monochrome) but that was basically down to the fabric.

So the fabric, the vintage smoky white cashel, was extremely flimsy, almost gauzy. I work on Cashel all the time, but the fabric is usually dyed (and a bit shrunken), perhaps that makes the difference. (This fabric is printed on one side.) Carried thread, even short distances, was very obvious. Before I frame this, I will need to do some work on the back, tucking & snipping tails, and probably using little patches of muslin where I carried the thread between words. At first, I tried to keep it clean, but it was far too annoying, stopping and restarting for every word, so I decided to carry the thread and deal with it later.

My favorite details include the varied fonts, that part was quite fun. I really like the symbols that were included, the sorting hat, deathly hallows, Gryffindor’s sword, Hedwig (my substitution), a wand, the Quidditch goals, lightning, a snake, harry’s glassses & scar, and footprints like the Marauder’s Map. I like all the quotes, many of them Dumbledore’s, who was a wise wizard!
It’s my first finish of 2020 and I’m hoping for another this month!
