I’m pleased to share a “favorite” finish!

When this pattern was first published, I was so enamored, I immediately ordered 2 copies (1 for myself and 1 for a friend). It’s quite rare that a pattern excites me so much, but the whole thing captivated me: her rainbow colors, sparkly wings, purple eyeshadow, deep raspberry pout, gorgeous golden locks. The pattern is quite big, mostly full coverage over 4 double pages.

The color shading is expertly designed, with many layers in the skirt. The overall effect is of motion, blowing in the wind; it’s pretty cool. My only problem was with the stair step backstitch; I charted my own for smooth curves, sharp points, etc. I also added a little extra backstitch on the skirt where I thought it was appropriate. The ombre sashes are fun. Her green top suits me fine since green is my favorite color. The wings were pretty easy to stitch with long bands of color but backstitching all the veins in the gold Kreinik was a little tedious.

As for materials, this pattern uses over 40 colors of DMC, including a few of the new ones (DMC 15 & 16). Also 2 colors of Kreinik are needed, color 3260 “Tourmaline” for the wings and 15 “Chartreuse” for all the floral details. I think the Kreinik is used very effectively. The beading is quite extensive, over 800 beads in 4 colors. Almost the entire pack of 62010, frosted ice, was required. I especially like her beaded belt, neckline, earrings, beaded hem and slipper. The beads add lots of dimension and sparkle.

My favorite details are probably her haughty expression, her proud pose, and amazing outfit. She has the most gorgeous dress in the sky and she knows it! The delicately shaded and sparkly wings are also pretty special. Her long wavy, golden hair, aloft in the wind, with the beaded floral details is beautiful.

I do plan to continue with this series, Fairy of the Rain is already on the go, and Fairy of the Wind is partially kitted with a gorgeous fabric that was hand dyed especially for her.
